Thanks to Sam Shortline for the complimentary train ride for myself and my granddaughter. I won a giveaway for this ride and was really excited about it. I am a subscriber to their newsletter because I take their rides as often as time allows and I’m able to see what routes they are offering and the dates. In one of their newsletters, they announced that the first 10 or so callers would receive free tickets. Seeing as how I never win anything, you can imagine my surprise when they asked how many tickets I would need. As I mentioned, I took a granddaughter with me because she was already scheduled to spend the weekend. My win really made it more exciting for her. This was her first trip on the train and she really enjoyed every second of it as I knew she would.
We started at Cordele, Georgia at Lake Blackshear AKA Georgia Veterans State Park and rode the train to downtown historic Plains Georgia. We arrived at the depot that Jimmy Carter used as his Presidential Campaign Headquarters beginning in 1975. We got out there to explore and check out the good eats, the homemade ice cream, peanut butter treats, and all of the antique shops and museums. A memorable time for both of us.
