Historic SAM Shortline Excursion Train Jimmy Carter National Historic Site Travel

Choo choo choo choo, that’s the sound of the Historic SAM Shortline Excursion Train while we’re bumping along. I don’t know what’s more romantic and exciting about a tour than riding in 1949 vintage cars. I’ve gone on several different train tours with the SAM Shortline Excursion Train and I think my favorite would be the Presidential Flyer Train Ride. I’m nuts about historical places and the history of the train depot in Plains is so interesting. After surviving the AP&L era it reopened on April 18, 1975, to serve one of our great presidents, Jimmy Carter’s, Presidential Campaign headquarters. The Presidential Flyer Train Ride takes it’s passengers to the childhood home of Jimmy Carter. To see how he lived in such simplicity is absolutely fascinating. From start to finish, this ride is worth the {somewhat steep} ticket price. You get to choose from several different vintage cars and it really feels like you’ve stepped back in time on this ride. They accept volunteers as most places do and the men and women who volunteer do everything within their power to make your train ride a ride to remember. You can buy yummies while you travel and shop for gifts on the train, as well, and they do have bathroom facilities. History buffs will agree that this is a memorable occasion and should be experienced by young and old alike.
